Black cornflowers with Sweet pea 'Matucana'

Have had much better luck with my sweet peas this year. This is an old variety – Matucana. Not only are the two colours really pretty but it has the sweetest scent. I’ve got them growing up an iron trellis panel that just sticks in the ground.

In the foreground are some black cornflowers. I’d had the seed for ages (I split a pack with my Mum) and sowed all the seed at the beginning of this year. I didn’t imagine that they would all germinate – but they did! I’ll definitely grow these again next year.

The sweeet peas and the cornflowers also look good in a vase together!
